Harla and Darla Blossom

Dear Sister, did you get any of that cold front that blew in the other day? It was so cold yesterday mornin that Harla and Darla wore their Rabbit Fur Jackets to school. They wanted to wear their matching muffs and headbands, but I told them they had better wait ‘til Christmas or at least Thanksgiving.

Harla and Darla shared first prize awarded by the Mothers and Daughters of the Future Homemakers of Central Texas, for their Versatile Spam Dog/ Spamwich recipe. They got little wooden spoons that had been gold leafed with their names on em. Apron and potholder sets with the Future Homemakers logo on em and a special letter of recognition from the Spam people. I can tell you we were mighty proud. I'll send you the newspaper clipping.

They said their recipe will be entered in the national Spam-off in April and if selected will appear in the Home Economics Instructional video, " Spam and You" Narrated by Miss Betty White, to be distributed throughout all the high schools and middle schools that teach Home EC.

They seem to take bein celebrities pretty well in stride. They are still takin tumbling class twirling and interpretive dance. The interpretive dance instructor is from Vidor. His name is Mr. Danny Claude Depui. He has them workin on a number now that have cartwheels, handstands, backflips, and a repeated cannonball sort of thing that ends up with them both doin the splits. This is all set to Chariots of Fire, that Danny Claude's friend, Brent, plays on the rehearsal piano. It was the first time the girls have danced interpretive or otherwise to classical music. Color me proud.

They have a choir festival coming up and I have to make them costumes so they can dress up like Hummel Figurines. The entire Fifth and Sixth grades will all be Hummels for the pageant. Lester said in order to make them authentic looking and just like the ones in our collection they should be cracked and have chipped noses. I told him we shouldn't have let the girls play with them when they were so young and didn't understand what rare pieces a art they were.

We were gonna drive Harla and Darla to Temple and try and get them into a national twin- search for double-mint Gum commercials. But they both had Strep throat and tonsillitis and couldn't go at the last minute. They are entering the Miss Priss and the Miss Jr. Priss contests in November. Danny Claude and his pianist friend Brent run both of the pageants and teach the girls a lot about how to walk and all.

You remember Lexxann Tibedeaux was Miss Priss, Bastrop Mall Area, and her Sister, Voleta, was Miss Priss, Temple and Miss Jr. Priss, Lake Texoma. Harla and Darla are gonna give those little buck toothed hogs a run for their money. They think they are so gifted and talented. Lexxann must weigh 180 lbs., and the little one looks more like her Daddy everyday. Especially right in the face.

You should see Harla and Darla with their new Tony Home perms I gave em. And their little padded bras on. You would think they were Miss Heather Locklear's kiddos and not mine. Somebody told me she wore braces and glasses when she was their age too.

Girl, I have just gone on and on about Harla and Darla. I hope you can forgive me. I know you love them just like they were your own and are thrilled to hear of their accomplishments.

You write to us soon, and remember, we love you, anyway.

Your Sister Leona
