Personal Sweep Net Web Pages in 3 Steps

  1. Create web content on your computer.

Many software packages can help you create web pages. Microsoft’s tool is FrontPage. It comes with their Office suite of business applications. A scaled-down version, FrontPage Express, is available as an optional part of Internet Explorer, Microsoft’s web browser. You can download this free-of-charge from the Microsoft web site. You will be able to find a variety of tutorials on FrontPage in the computer section of your favorite bookstore.

When creating your pages, you must call the home page ‘default.htm’ or ‘index.htm’. If both are present, ‘default.htm’ is used as the home page. Name all other pages as you please.

  2. Contact Sweep Net to set up the web site.

You may proceed with this before finishing your web content, but you need to do it before you can publish your pages in step (3) below. Simply email us the name of your web site. Often our customers use their sweep net user name. However, any unique string of letters and numbers, with periods as word separators, is acceptable. For instance, ‘john.doe’. Anyone wanting to view your pages would then point their browser to ‘www.sweep.net/john.doe’.

  3. Publish your web pages to the Sweep Net web site.

We allow you to create and change your personal web pages via any FTP (File Transfer Protocol) client program. This includes Microsoft's FrontPage, as well as the Microsoft Web Publishing Wizard, which you can also download from Microsoft as an option of the Internet Explorer package. After we set up your web site, we will send you detailed instructions on publishing with FrontPage or the Web Publishing Wizard, as well as general FTP information, should you decide to use another FTP client program.
