Key takeaways:

  • ADEO has set ambitious internal ESG data goals, and needs to prepare to comply with the European Union’s CSRD regulation
  • To achieve this, ADEO needed a software solution to help it manage extensive ESG data sets across its operations in more than 20 countries worldwide
  • ADEO wanted to empower both corporate and business-level collaboration on this data, principally among non-ESG specialists
  • By turning to Sweep and consultancy partner Axionable, ADEO is able to configure more than 100 initial indicators and import large historical data sets
  • ADEO’s ESG data will be available at all levels of the company, thanks to specially-configured dashboards and data reports

“The positive transformation of our company relies on our ability to make the analysis of our ESG performance just as solid and rigorous as the measurement of our economic and commercial performance. Managing our ESG performance is much more than a compliance issue: it’s about being able to act in the right places with clear objectives and building a resilient, forward-looking organization.”

Global Leader in charge of Positive Impacts

Background

ADEO is the 3rd largest player worldwide, and leader in Europe, in the home improvement and DIY market. By 2023 it had recorded sales of €30.7 billion including tax.

ADEO distributes its solutions for positive living in 20 countries, via its network of 1,000 stores, marketplaces and platform partnerships. It is the only player in its market to have such an international presence.

ADEO describes itself as a platform of open companies connected to partners. The group comprises major retailers including Leroy Merlin, Bricocenter and St Maclou, as well as product brands from Dexter (tools) to Sensea (bathroom fittings) and many more.

Every day, the 110,000 employees of ADEO’s companies make products and solutions available in-store or online, to support the projects of both private individuals and home improvement professionals.

ADEO’s ethos is that living in a healthy, safe, responsible, sustainable, economical and comfortable environment is essential to the well-being of people all over the world. ADEO invites its employees and partners to join it in seeking a shared goal: to be useful. “Useful to ourselves, to others and to the world”.

Challenge

ADEO has launched an ambitious program aimed at accelerating the management of its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance. The foundation of this is the setting of targets and action plans linked to the company’s climate change impacts. The company is also preparing to comply with the European Union’s CSRD regulation, for which it will be required to disclose almost 1200 data points.

ADEO assessed that in order to achieve these goals, it would need to “industrialize” its extra-financial data, tackling these metrics at large scale.

ADEO’s Positive Impacts team recognized that this would be best achieved by empowering ADEO users at both corporate and business levels. They set out to identify a digital tool which would centralize data being produced by various applications within the company’s extensive IT ecosystem, via reliable interfaces and APIs.

Solution

After benchmarking various solutions to help it manage its ESG performance effectively and in line with the highest market standards, ADEO chose to partner with Sweep, and Axionable – a France-based consultancy specialized in accelerating sustainable transformations.

Building on a successful track record with Sweep, Axionable’s experts configured over 120 sustainability indicators, integrated ADEO’s substantial historical data, and set up dashboards and reports accessible company-wide.

Clara Lorinquer, ADEO’s Global Leader in charge of Positive Impacts, says:

‘The positive transformation of our company relies on our ability to make the analysis of our ESG performance just as solid and rigorous as the measurement of our economic and commercial performance. Managing our ESG performance is much more than a compliance issue: it’s about being able to act in the right places with clear objectives and building a resilient, forward-looking organization.’

Rachel Delacour, CEO and co-founder of Sweep, observes that:

‘companies aspire to transform their commitments into concrete actions to boost both their economic performance and their sustainable impact. However, many feel helpless when faced with the complexity of their sustainability data. At Sweep, we enable organizations to map their impact in real time so they know how best to reduce it, and to meet extra-financial regulatory requirements at the click of a button. We are proud that ADEO has chosen Sweep and our partner Axionable to accelerate its positive transformation’.

Gwendal Bihan, CEO and co-founder of Axionable, adds:

‘We are proud to support ADEO in its journey towards positive transformation. By combining our consulting expertise with the power of the Sweep solution, we will enable ADEO to monitor and improve its ESG performance in a rigorous and efficient way. This partnership marks an important step towards a more sustainable economy.’
