Background
The Ateliers De France group of companies spans 58 entities across 15 countries, mastering 55 specialty crafts in multiple domains. It was assembled with the sole purpose of producing the highest quality construction and finishes either for contemporary projects, or for the preservation and restoration of architectural heritage.
The combined history and proficiencies of the group can be seen in countless public and private buildings, historic monuments, iconic hotels, as well as exceptional private residences.
The Group has worked on projects as diverse as the Château de Versailles, the Oval Office of the US White House, Notre Dame de Paris cathedral, the French Presidential residence -the Elysée Palace, Paris’ Opéra Garnier, the Matarazzo building in São Paolo, London’s Hôtel Péninsula and Paris’ Hôtel de Crillon.
Ateliers De France’s craftsmen are the heirs of traditions of workmanship dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries. The company also sees itself as having a duty to preserve and pass on these traditions for future generations.
As ESG Projects Officer Violette Courtois says: “Committing to sustainability initiatives is a way of ensuring that we can continue to pass on these “savoir-faire” practical skills, and assure that they are carried on into the future”.
Challenge
Ateliers De France has set SBTi-certified greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets, and needs to prepare for CSRD compliance.
By 2033, the company aims to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 54.6%, and Scope 3 emissions by 32.5%.
Staff initially used questionnaires to gather data, but these proved too broad to achieve the required level of detail.
The data was then collated in spreadsheets, which teams found increasingly cumbersome and time-consuming.
What’s more, the 58 entities which combine to make up Ateliers De France, are increasingly required to provide detailed evidence of their ESG credentials when replying to tenders. The representatives of each of the 58 entities needed to request the data from the Ateliers De France head office each time, adding to workloads and prolonging timescales.
